What is TEEX?
TEEX is a secure distributed computing platform which provides a Layer-2 solution to eliminate two fundamental limitations of traditional blockchain: privacy and scalability. TEEX leverages the latest trusted hardware/software technologies to preserve the privacy and integrity of data and computations. It decouples the process of execution from settlement by introducing an off-chain system to mitigate the bottleneck of traditional smart contract. Comparing with existing solutions, TEEX ensures the strongest isolation with mutually-untrusted execution environment to maximize the security guarantees.
TEEX Design
The TEEX ecosystem can be broken down into three tiers: Application, TEEX Network, and Public Network.
Application, including user client, executor, dispatcher, wallet, etc, provides interfaces for end users. The applications are based on the TEEX SDK which handles complex protocols with TEEX network, public blockchain or underlying TEE.
TEEX Network consists of a large number of workers and dispatchers. Workers are running inside TEEs and responsible for the execution and maintenance of private contracts. Dispatchers receive tasks from users and then dispatch them to workers.

Public Network includes public blockchain (e.g., Ethereum) which is used for achieving global consensus and settlement, as well as public storage system (e.g., IPFS) to store some necessary data such as the state of contracts.

Who Are We
We are from the first research group in China that has been focused on TEE including Intel SGX, AMD SME/SEV, ARM TrustZone and RISC-V since 2012. Our papers are published on top-tier conferences including ISCA, HPCA, USENIX Security, CCS, USENIX ATC, NDSS, MobiSys, EuroSys, etc. In 2015, we released T6, the first open-source TEE OS in China, which evolves into a commercial product and gets deployed in tens of millions of devices.

Our project, ShadowEth, applies TEE to public blockchain and supports private smart contract in a practical way. The related paper was accepted in Jan 2018, which is the first peer-reviewed paper discussing privacy and scalability on public blockchain.
